| Grace and Elegance are personified by this Daughter of the King in Red Sari This is a 24" x 36" open edition print of an original painting by Beth K. Ritter-Perry. The inspiration for this painting came from my love of juxtaposing cultures of the African Diaspora and my appreciation of South Asian bridal fashion and the timeless, elegant simplicity of the sari. This 3000 year-old icon of world fashion consists of 5 or 6 sumptuous yards of fabric which caress the curves of its wearer in a way that is alluring, yet demure. Saris are wrapped and worn in many styles, and I've been told that immigrants from the Indian subcontinent can easily recognize their countrywomen from their hometowns by the way that the sari is wrapped, and they use this as a means to befriend others that they encounter from "back home" beyond India and Pakistan. |
